Automotive News: Dubai Police Added Four New Supercars

DUBAI : Dubai police added four more high powered supercars to its fleet of luxury vehicle patrolling the emirate's road

Officers already get to drive multi-million dirham cars such as a Mercedes SLS, a Bentley Continental GT, a Lamborghini Aventador, a Bugatti Veyron, an Aston Martin One-77 and a Ferrari FF, all decorated in the force’s livery.
The recent additions, announced yesterday, of a second Audi R8, a Mercedes SL 63, a Mercedes G class Brabus, and a Nissan GTR bring the number of top of the range sports cars run by Dubai Police to 12.

They were presented for the public on the first day of the Dubai International Motor Show.
Col Nabil Abdulla Al Redha, Dubai Police fleet director, said it all started with the Lamborghini Aventador earlier this year.
“When we first launched the Lamborghini, we studied the impact of this car and we looked at the reaction of the people and the media,” he said.

“It was a good advertisement, so we decided to expand it more.”

It is not known the total value of the 12 cars, but the limited edition Aston Martin One-77 alone is worth Dh11 million.
Rather than use the cars in high speed pursuits, Col Al Redha said they are used solely as a means of promoting the police force and the city. “We are mostly using them in tourist places, as a means of promoting to tourists, and allowing them to take pictures,” he added.
“This is promoting the image of Dubai, this is just advertising. Because most people like sports cars.

“If you are putting an advert for just Dubai Police, perhaps not many people would be interested. But if you put an advert for a sports car, most people would be interested; people would be more attracted.”

The 12th edition of the Dubai International Motor Show was officially inaugurated on Tuesday by Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, as the world’s top motoring manufacturers prepared to showcase their latest models and motoring innovations to the region and the world.

With over 65,000 square metres of exhibition space and more than 600 vehicles on display, the Dubai International Motor Show 2013 runs until Saturday November 9, at Dubai World Trade Centre.

A number of VIP guests attended the inauguration with Helal Saeed Almarri, CEO of Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), and Director General of Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), who guided the VIP entourage through the halls of the show.

The cornerstone event of the newly formed Dubai Motor Festival, created under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, the Dubai International Motor Show brings the global motoring spotlight to Dubai.

"We are honoured that Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has given his support to Dubai International Motor Show. The show has grown in size and stature with each edition, developing into one of the key automotive shows in the region," said Helal Saeed Almarri, CEO of Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) and Director General of Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM).

"We are delighted to have received such an excellent response from our exhibitors and partners, many of whom have been part of the Dubai International Motor Show from the very start," he added.

Visitors to the five-day show will be wowed from the moment they enter the show’s doors as they will have the privilege of witnessing a record number of 108 global and regional launches, including 15 concept cars yet to be seen by the rest of the world from the world’s leading motoring manufacturers.

The world’s top automotive manufacturers from Europe, North America and Asia are participating at the show with a number of concept cars, new models and hybrid cars scheduled to make their debut during the five-day show.

This year’s show sees models making their first debut in Dubai from high profile exhibitors. A glimpse into the future of automotive design is offered by the 15 concept cars being showcased by exhibitors.

Visitors to this year’s show can see a significant number of first-time exhibitors in the region, from exclusive, limited edition super cars to practical city cars, as well as a wide range of on- and off-road two and three-wheeler bikes.

DUBAI POLICE PRESENT FOUR SUPER PATROL CARS AT 2013 MOTORSHOW

Dubai Police has added four new luxury cars to its fleet this week, bringing the total number of luxury patrol cars to twelve.

The latest addition includes the Mercedes G63, Audi R8, Mercedes SL 63, and the Nissan GT-R, all of which presented at Dubai Motor Show in World Trade Center.

The purchase is a brand new one, said a proud Dubai Police delegation at the stand.

“We like to go with the rhythm of Dubai, and Dubai is a modern city,” explained Anas Al Matrooshi, Deputy Director of the Transport and Rescue General Department of Operation at the sidelines of Dubai Motor Show.

“We want to attract the attention of people. Dubai is a touristic city, and we deploy these patrol cars especially in touristic areas. We also do this in support of Dubai’s bid for Expo 2020,” he continued.

The Mercedes G63 is the first tuned police patrol car added to the fleet, a car which should fulfill an educational purpose beside an attractive one.

German tuning company Brabus upgraded the vehicle to a 700 Widestar and similarly launched the Tune it! Safe! Campaign in cooperation with Dubai Police, to show the public that car-tuning can be done safely.

“The legally and safely tuned vehicle will enable the Dubai police to provide some important public information on the streets of the city. The initiative aims to raise awareness in Dubai, so that safety is not forgotten when it comes to automobile tuning,” said Sven Gramm, Head of PR and Advertising at Brabus.

In the BRABUS 700 Widestar, the Dubai Police is taking delivery of a high-performance power off-roader with a 515 kW/700 HP 5,5 litreV8 biturbo engine. This enables the all-wheel drive police vehicle to reach a top speed of 240 km/h, sprinting to 100 km in just 4.9 seconds.

Dubai Police first added a luxury car to its fleet in April this year with the much talked about purchase of the Lamborghini Aventador. Soon after that followed the purchase of the Camaro SS, Ferrari FF, Aston Martin 177, Bentley GT, Mercedes SLS, Fort Mustang Roush, and BMW M6.

The most expensive of the patrol cars is by far the Aston Martin, as it is a Q series model of which only 77 have been made, explains a Dubai Police officer who personally drives the Lamborghini.

The four newest additions to the fleet are certainly not the latest, as Dubai Police is planning more purchases in the near future, said Al Matrooshi.
